About University of Nairobi
The University of Nairobi is the oldest and largest of Kenya’s universities. It was founded in 1956 as an affiliate college of the University of London. On 20th May 1964, it became a constituent college of the Federal University of East Africa, and henceforth the enrolled students were to study for degrees of the University of East Africa. In 1970, the University College Nairobi transformed into the first national university in Kenya and was renamed the University of Nairobi.

Student Life
Nairobi is the commercial and cultural center of Kenya. Government Ministries and Departments. Also, the city is home to City Hall, State House, National Museums of Kenya, Snake Park, Aviary, Arboretum, Mosques Municipal Markets, Art Galleries, Kenyatta International Conference Centre which houses one of the largest Conference Halls in the World, about a dozen cinemas, numerous hotels, coffee houses am beautiful parks.
There are a number of clubs, organizations and sports activities that enable the students to develop their talents and skills. These include the head organization of the university is SONU (Student’s Organization of Nairobi University). However, each school still has its own student organization that enables its members to establish their leadership skills and address the diverse issues facing the students.

Student Life
The University is situated in Nairobi, a fast growing city with a population of over 3.5 million. The city center has an area of over 700 square kilometers and stands at an altitude of 1,675 meters above sea level level. This beautiful city experiences no real winter or summer because it is near the equator and at a high altitude. The days in Nairobi are warm and the nights cool for the greater part of the year. With the temperature rarely rising above 80 degrees F (27 degrees C) in the middle of the day or falling below 50 degrees F (10 degrees C) at night, Nairobi enjoys a temperate climate.

Sports facilities are also offered and well maintained to ensure proper physical fitness of the students. The sports teams in the school include; rugby, soccer, volleyball and swimming.
Accommodation is offered by the university on the respective campuses. There is scheduled school transport to ease mobility between the various campuses.
Clinics are also accessible on each campus. Several major national and private hospitals are in close proximity to the University’s campuses.

1. Hon. Raila Odinga - Prime Minister of Kenya (2008-2013) and respected African Statesman.

4. Dr. Betty Gikonyo - Consultant Pediatric Cardiologist, a co-founder of Heart to Heart Foundation and Chief Executive of The Karen Hospital.
5. Dr. Wangari Maathai –. Maathai founded theGreen Belt Movement, an environmental non-governmental organization focused on the planting of trees, environmental conservation, and women's rights. In 2004, she became the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for "her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace
Professor Maathai won many awards including the Disney Conservation Award (2006), the Paul Harris Fellow (2005), the Sophie Prize (2004), the Petra Kelly Prize for Environment (2004), the Conservation Scientist Award (2004), J. Sterling Morton Award (2004), Outstanding Vision and Commitment Award (2002), Excellence Award from the Kenyan Community Abroad (2001), UN's Africa Prize for Leadership (1991), Goldman Environmental prize (1991), the Woman of the World (1989), and the Woman of the Year Award (1983)
6. Dr. James Mwangi, Chief Executive of Equity Bank, the largest bank in East and Central Africa by customer numbers. Chairman of Kenya's vision 2030 Delivery Board, Dr. James Mwangi was voted African Banker of the Year at the 2010 African Banker Awards. James Mwangi won the Ernst and Young 2012 Global Entrepreneur of the Year award beating a field of over 50 highly accomplished nominees from all over the world.
